Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes blushing of the cheeks and or nose and commonly presents across the nose, cheeks, or forehead. Oak Dermatology in Naperville, Itasca, and Joliet, IL uses several innovative solutions, including laser therapy, to reduce redness and inflammation. Rosacea can affect most individuals, but it's most common among people with sensitive skin. Although men and darker-skinned individuals can develop rosacea as well, it tends to affect mostly middle-aged older women with fair skin. There is no real cure for this skin ailment, but it can be managed. Rosacea can come and go, with periods of flare-ups that can last for weeks to months. Untreated rosacea can worsen over the years, causing persistent symptoms and extended periods of flare-ups. As rosacea progresses, patients may notice acne-like pimples on their noses and cheeks. In the advanced stages of rosacea, deformity of the nose can happen. Your rosacea treatment should begin with scheduling a consultation with one of our dermatologists to examine your skin and assess the severity of the condition. Our providers have had extensive experience in a 360 approach to managing and minimizing rosacea symptoms that are customized for you.

Heat and inflammation can trigger the symptoms of rosacea. Since Rosacea is a chronic condition, with no cure, it is essential to see a dermatologist for an effective treatment plan to prevent the worsening of rosacea that can cause permanent skin and facial damage. First, you can prevent rosacea flare-ups by avoiding hot or extreme temperatures, spicy foods, hot beverages, or alcohol. Hot water is another trigger. We always recommend our patients wash their faces or shower with lukewarm water and immediately apply an appropriate medical-grade moisturizer that is formulated to manage rosacea flare-ups.

Our top-ranked dermatologists at Oak Dermatology have in-depth experience with successfully managing rosacea. There are many treatment options available, including prescription topical or oral medications, laser treatments, and consistent use of medical-grade skin care. Medications can be taken in capsule form or absorbed from a cream, lotion, or gel. These medications help reduce redness, stinging sensations, or pimples. Oak Dermatology takes a unique path to the treatment of rosacea with a 360 approach, combining various modalities to ensure treatment efficacy. The use of lasers may be incorporated into your treatment plan to reduce the appearance of broken or dilated blood vessels and eliminate excess tissue buildup around the nose. Our providers will also create a customized maintenance skincare plan for you in order to ensure the longevity of successful rosacea management.

Dr. Al-Hadidi is exceptional. She is kind, caring, approachable, listens to patients and really understands the delicate nature of skin. I went to see her after suffering from rosacea and seeing another dermatologist who misdiagnosed me and recommended laser treatments that irritated my skin even more. Dr. Al-Hadidi gave me hope for the 1st time in the past 4 years by prescribing treatments that actually work.

I have been going to Oak Dermatology for several months now. My gym buddy recommended them.   I get regular aesthetician sessions with Hannah Krapil and laser treatments with Dr. Hsu. My entire experience with this medical practice is absolutely wonderful...from scheduling, interactions with medical assistants and care from Hannah and Dr.Hsu.  I was initially apprehensive of laser treatment but knowing I was in the hands of Dr.Hsu and his impressive training and credentials along with reviews of his patients more than allayed my fears and I felt very confident being under his care. The results have been unbelievably good after only a few sessions of facials and laser. My skin looks glowing and  ruddiness from rosacea have subsided. Friends have noted this vast improvement and also wanted  to be treated at Oak Dermatology.  Thank you to the staff of Oak Dermatology and especially Hannah Krapil and Dr. Hsu.From a grateful patient, Maria C.

What Are the Symptoms of Rosacea?

Signs of rosacea may vary from moderate to severe. The primary indication of rosacea is facial redness. In the majority of individuals, the central portion of the face is obviously red. The blood vessels of the nose and cheeks can swell and become obvious. Other signs include red and swollen bumps on the face which appear similar to acne. Sometimes the lumps contain discharge. The skin may also feel tender and hot to the touch. Roughly half of rosacea sufferers have eye problems, including dryness, irritation, and reddened, swollen eyelids. In rare cases, a patient's nose can appear enlarged as the condition can cause the skin on the nose to thicken, which results in a bulbous look.
